This video is a brief introduction teaser of system simulation. The purpose of this video is to let everyone know what system simulation is about and attract students to this course.
Before I made this video, I asked myself three questions.
“Who are my audiences?”
“How can I explain the basic idea to people with no comp-sci knowledge?”
“What is the most interesting way to explain ideas?”
The first answer is simple, I made the video for all background audiences. To get the best answer for the second and third questions, I apply Merrill’s First Principles to my video. which links the subject to a real-world problem with animation. I think instead of using many terminologies, a well-animated story will get more attention from my audience. Throughout the video, multimedia principles such as coherence, contiguity, and redundancy will be used to enhance learning and engagement. The video will also include a question to lead my audience to think.
After I finished my video, I find many things that I can do to improve the video quality. As a teaser of a subject, I certainly do not have to push much knowledge to my audience. However, I over concerned with the video style for the non-comp-sci audience. If a student has computer science knowledge, this video seems to be at a kindergarten level and wastes their time. A good introduction lesson should have a wide range of audience acceptance. Next time, I may apply learning hierarchies like this at the end of the video.
